Ever since I read about "reclaiming yarn" from old sweaters, I had wanted to try it. I went to an AmVets thrift store yesterday and found some wool sweaters with good seams that could be disassembled and unraveled. This yarn is from an American Eagle Outfitters sweater. It's 100% lambs wool and extremely soft. I even got 2 wooden toggle buttons from the sweater. Not sure what to do with this yet, but it is a real treasure. There's a small piece that I am not unraveling (seems to include lots of sl1, k1, psso - so it won't unravel. I may felt that piece and create a change purse. I have some lovely red silk-like fabric I could use as a lining. It was pretty easy to open up all the seams on the sweater. Can't wait to come up with a project for it. The color is so deep and rich. I love this yarn. Great bargain for under $3! Now I am psyched for more recycled/reclaimed yarn.

This is the sock yarn I won on ebay. It came in the mail yesterday. I just love the colors! Isn't it beautiful? It's Opal sock yarn.
I am continuing to work on the Irish Hiker's Scarf. It's really pretty. I have vowed to put in some serious time on the hooded cable sweater I am making for my daughter. The air is turning colder. She's going to need it pretty soon! I need to get crackin!

Woo hoo Sonja, you did it! Isn't unraveling a thrift store sweater FUN! American Eagle sweaters are good ones to find, also Old Navy. Gosh you have me feeling the urge to go down to my thrift store right now!! :o)

Thanks elaine, rachel and heidi! Rachel helped me find an excellent sock pattern for the Opal yarn pictured here. Yes, heidi, yarn reclaiming is fun! It's like treasure hunting - and so economical. What kinds of things do you use your reclaimed yarn for?
