6. Addendum - I just became aware that my offering of "enough for a pair of women's medium socks" springs from a rather narrow vision. Here's what I propose to change that offering to accomodate women with larger feet and men. I will offer 3 balls of sock yarn of my choosing. That should be enough to accomodate everyone.

Mona Lisa’s husband has just told her how wonderful their daughter will look after Mona has finished knitting the dress she is working on. “But”, he informs her, “She will never be as beautiful as you are to me.”
Mona Lisa is smiling as she is thinking of the scarf she wants to knit to match the sweater she is making.
She's smiling because she's knitting something for her young boyfriend, like a thong...lol

Well, you see, Mona Lisa is smiling because has this really awesome stash now that she filched from the house nextdoor when the little widow-lady there, Amon Alis, kicked the bucket last week, but no one else knew that the Amon Alis had been stashing yarn for the past 56 years - ever since her husband, Francesco Tripparo, died in that freak marble quarry accident.
Since Amon Alis was Italian, she went into deepest mouring for the rest of her life and never wore anything else but black. Her stash of yarn, however, was tremendously big and colorful. Mona Lisa, bringing biscotti and coffee one day, stayed for a visit, and, while the Alis made a trip to the outhouse, snooped in the cupboards. She found all of this luxurious wool there in the most lovely colors. No alpaca, though, since the New World hadn't yet established trade for this commodity.
Anyway, when Alis died, Lisa high-tailed it nextdoor during the funeral mass and cleared out all of the cupboards, the closets, and even from inside the mattress casing. It seems that Alis, unknown to the rest of the village, had had a thing for the a member of the local weaver's and spinner's guild. He used to give her yarn, thinking that she would knit up little hats and booties for the children of the orphanage. Alis, however, didn't even know how to knit, she just liked to fondle the yarn. That is why Amon Alis is now the patron saint of yarn stashers everywhere.
So, how do we know this? We know all of this from a secret diary page that Lisa slipped in behind the canvas after Leonardo finished the painting. It seems that the parchment slipped loose during an extensive and expensive restoration proces and the restorer found this page. It shook both the world of art and the world of fiber. Apparently, Lisa, in her later years, was consumed by guilt over what she did and she hid the diary pages in the hope that someone would someday know the story.
And now you know the rest of the story.

Mona Lisa is smiling because, although she is surrounded by Lion Brand yarn, she has 5 lbs of premium cashmere hidden under the LB Jamie in her knitting bag.
Mona Lisa is smiling because she knows about that yarn statsh in her husband's tool box. The tool box of course was bought years ago and her hsband does not use it....
Mona Lisa is smiling because she just thought of a new place to hide all that sock yarn that doesn't count as stash. After all, no one but her would ever open the linen closet, or use the laundry room.....

Well.. Mona is smiling because she is Happily Knitting away on the Baby Blanket for the Child she is expecting.
Hubby does not know about the little blessing they are going to have and she is anticipating the Joyful Look on his Face when she tells him the news....

Mona Lisa is smiling because after swatching and swatching and swatching, she has FINALLY obtained proper gauge and can begin knitting the actual project.
Mona Lisa used to have a high-powered job as an accountant for a city firm in Rome. What with all the power-lunches, late night meetings and entertaining clients she never seemed to be able to find time to knit.
Each month she would receive her knitting magazines and flick through them in bed looking at all the wonderful patterns for shawls and socks and sweaters and moan to her husband about how she had no time to knit them.
One evening, at a charity fund raiser for the "Stop Venice Sinking" fund she was seated next to a young artist named Leo.
He couldn't stop staring at her and asked if she had ever done any modelling. She smiled at his corny chat-up line and continued talking to the influential client opposite about the possible tax reducing strategies for his pasta business.
But Leonardo wouldn't take no for an answer and continued to offer her increasingly large amounts of money to sit for him.
Eventually, she took him up on his offer, got a sabbatical from her firm and now she gets paid to sit still for hours on end with nothing to do.....except knit. And she gets paid for the modelling.
Now....wouldn't you be smiling?
Mona Lisa is smiling because her husband has just told her he is building a new villa and there will be a 2000 sq ft. room (lined in cedar) for her stash. And if the stash she has doesn't fill the room she can buy more (and any accessories she may need too). now that would make me smile.
