This photo was actually taken yesterday during my work travels. It's from somewhere in Wyoming county in NY state on Rt. 98.
Brrr! There's chill in the air today. Ole Jack Frost has been up to his tricks. Stubborn as I am, I'm not ready to crank up the furnace, so I wear a shawl and turn on a little space heater for now. A cup of hot chai tea will warm me from the inside out. My usual morning routine is to grab a cup of hot tea and settle in by the computer to do an online crossword puzzle so that I may wake up gently before rushing off to work. But on Saturday, I can really take my time.
I have been busy with many projects in addition to work. I have been putting the finishing touches on Wendy's prize package (don't worry Wendy, it's going out soon!). Gosh what alot of fun this is! All the while, this is giving extra fun ideas for my Socret Pal goody packages too. It's hard to find the time sometimes to do these things, but it is such a valuable way to spend my time. The pleasure it gives is a reward in itself!
Knitting-wise, I have been carrying little bags of knitting projects around with me, but haven't actually been doing the knitting. I am still working on my daughter's sweater. It's got to be 30" long from hem to underarm - she wants it that long. It's taking forever to get there. It will be a huge milestone - from there I can work on the sleeves, which will be quick by comparison. I think the body is about 27 inches long so far. Other projects - socks, Irish hiking scarf and the NEW project - a cozy for my son's Nintendo DS, which I am designing. I am using Knitpicks Telemark wool for this in black. It's a quick project on size 4 dpns. I am still brainstorming ways to embellish it and what type of closure to use - velcro? button? Probably velcro.
I sold my first hand dyed yarn from my etsy shop: www.thankewe.etsy.com .
That was a milestone! Not sure if I'll add any more yarn objects this weekend. Too many outings planned.
******* I have a QUESTION for anyone else out there who winds, spins or dyes yarn. How do you make twisted hanks from your yarn? All the online photos I see of twisted hanks of yarn look so perfect. Mine never turn out like that. Either they twist up erratically or the yarn doesn't stay smooth and even. What's the secret? I would greatly appreciate suggestions. Thanks in advance.

The picture looks like it should be a jigsaw puzzle.
I hold one end of the hank stationary and twist with the other hand and then let it turn back on itself and loop one end over the other. If it is a long hank, have someone else hold the stationary end. Good luck.
what a lovely fall day!
I also turn one hand while the other is still. It takes a bit of practice, but your hanks will be pretty soon.
Thanks for stooping by my blog, and leaving a comment. I love your hand dyed yarns and will keep them in mind for a special project.
I love the competition story answer. Great work.
We miss out on fall in my district. Some of the hills areas have changing leaf colours. I am glad we don't have snow, but our summer gets very hot and trying.
love the picture. being a midwesterner transfered to california I miss watching the seasons change (though not sure I miss a long winter)
Thanks to trek and mollyknits for telling me the secret of making nice twisted hanks with my yarns. So easy, I can't believe I didn't think of it myself! Note to self, always ask the experts!
To joanm and kat - I too really love the changing of the seasons. I like winter too, but only about 2 month's worth. Ours goes on a little long for my taste as well.
Sonja, hope your weather is improving - we are having torrential rain at the moment in England to make up for the water shortages we've had all year! I'm interested to see how your DS cover turns out as I have a DS and my nephew has a PSP and would love to knit some covers for them for Christmas. Have been experimenting with mobile(cell phone)/ i-pod "socks" with left over sock yarn...
