Holiday Knitting Fast and Furious

OK, we're in the home stretch and I am finishing up several projects as gifts for the holidays. I have on needles a flap-eared hat in red recycled wool trimmed with gray- a quick gift pattern you can get from www.lionbrandyarn.com if you are registered. This was a last minute find and gift for daughter Emily. I also have the Irish Hiking scarf - with several more inches to go. Then there's some wool socks knitted from recycled wool yarn - my own design - simple cuff down sock with 2 cables down the front of the ankle. See the flap-eared hat and cable socks in cameraphone photo above. When these 3 projects are done, I still have 3 other pairs of socks to do. The socks are quick really - I am using worsted weight wool so they are heavy socks that knit up quickly. These are still my favorite patterns. Fingering weight is OK, but not if you're looking for heavy socks - great for around the house during our NE US winters or inside boots when you are out shoveling snow - even better inside ski boots!

There are going to be some nice homemade gifts under the family tree this year. I did most of my shopping on Etsy.com this year. Found some beautiful things - booklaces from JOYouz,
sketchbook from deeprojects and two gorgeous glass candlevases from VaseCandle - these are really works of art.

You should check them all out. They make lovely things over there. No commercial stuff under our tree this year. Then there's still the baking and the traveling for the holiday to do. Lots of fun in store!

How about all of you? Finishing up those holiday gifts? Getting your shopping done? What gift are you giving that you are most proud of (handmade or otherwise)? Tell us all. Giving is the real joy of the holiday, don't you think?

I usually give everyone in my family at least one handmade gift but this year, with all the knitting I've been doing to sell for Breakthrough, I haven't really had the time.
However, my mum has been talking about wanting to knit something for months (having seen me knit all the time) so I've put together a kit for her to knit a shrug/cardi in gorgeous Alpaca/Silk. There's yarn, needles, pattern and it's all in a lovely home made project bag. So instead of knitting her a card this year I'm giving her the kit to knit her own!

What a great idea! A time saver too. She will enjoy that for a long time to come - the making and the having.

I love those gifts! I didn't do any Christmas knitting this year. I just didn't have time. I love that you are giving all handmade gifts. What a great Christmas it will be!!!
