What fun we had at the Alpaca and Fiber Festival in Cuba, NY yesterday! Lovely weather, beautiful country drive. How surprised I was to discover what sweet animals alpacas are with their big beautiful eyes and gentle calls! Truly exquisite little animals. If you have never visited alpacas before, I highly recommend it.
There were also displays of spinning the fiber - I'll bet every variety of spinning wheel was there in operation. Plenty of demonstrations of drop spindle spinning. There was also a gentleman who had vintage sock knitting machines and a few tabletop looms with weavers. Children were having lessons in needle felting and knitting. I was surprised that very few people were selling any of the yarn from the alpaca fiber, which is what I was looking for. I did finally find some in another building and snagged 4 skeins of natural alpaca yarn, 2 in a creamy color and 2 in a natural soft brown. What delicious socks they will make!
So SOFT! If you have never touched alpaca yarn, put it on your list of things to do. It's so soft!
We may be looking to add alpaca yarns in our shop at some point in the future.
We have listed some new sock yarn colors in the shop. Take a look! www.thankewe.etsy.com
