See what I got? Sock knitting books! Better than Christmas!
So here's a peak at what I have been doing as a result. As you can see, I started knitting socks on two circular needles, a la Cat Bordhi. I definitely like this better than dpns, although I didn't really mind dpns that much. The circs are faster though, which is a BIG plus. These socks are knit on size 4 circs with my own hand dyed DK superwash merino wool. Next, I got this book to learn how to knit two socks on 2 circs. I had only to look at the pictures in this book to get the idea. I have to say, the written description is difficult to follow, but the pictures said it all. Others have written that the 2 socks on 2 circs have tangling yarns. I find this can be a problem if you don't straighten them out at the end of each "row", so that's what I do. It's fast and easy. So, I'm on my way to speedily knitting two socks at a time on 2 circs. I may never go back. Socks here are on size 5 circs with worsted weight wool/acrylic (25/75) from Patons "Decor".
I thought about getting my hands on some addit turbo circular needles for these projects, but the pocketbook just didn't allow for that. I have Clover bamboo circs and good ole Susan Bates aluminum circs. Both work fine, after dipping the cables in boiling water to relax the coil. Someday, I'll have the addi's, but for now, these old standbys will do the job. One thing about Antje Gillgham's instructions, she instructs use of one 16" inch and one 24" circ for socks. I had already bought 2 29" circs, and they work just fine. I also did not use the point protectors she recommends. I got the hang of this method without those, probably because I had just learned the one sock on 2 circs method. The 2 socks on 2 circs wasn't much different.
If you haven't tired either of these methods for sock knitting, I strongly recommend them.
Thanks for stopping by. I'll see you on YOUR blog! Keep on knitting.
