What happened before...

Over the past year or more, I have been reading books about how England and USA differ both in their cultures and in the use of the English language. I have had quite an interest in this for some time. Mind you, this interest developed long before I knew anything about the job opportunity in England. I wanted to visit England, and short of doing that, I thought reading about it would be fun. And it has been. I also enjoy watching BBC America and other tv programs on PBS that come to us from England, like All Creatures Great and Small, Upstairs Downstairs, Coronation street, As Time Goes By (I LOVE Dame Judy Dench). Some of my favorite film stars are Emma Thompson( Sense and Sensibility, Much Ado About Nothing,The Remains of the Day), Anthony Hopkins (especially in The Remains of the Day), Dame Judy Dench (especially in Mrs. Brown). I had oftened daydreamed about traveling to England on vacation, but not just as a tourist at the most well-known tourist sites. Rather to live in England long enough to become acquainted with the culture, to be immersed in it and allow it to change my American way of thinking about things. I wanted the experience of being English, I think. All these things occurred to me before this job opportunity presented itself to me.

Having imagined all these things and having been curious about these things beforehand certainly lent itself to bolster my willingness, no my enthusiasm, about moving to England when the possibility occurred. It is tempting to say that these interests may have foretold my going to the UK. Otherwise, it's a fascinating coincidence.
