Socks on 2 Circs And Grafting - What's the Mystery?

Yup, I am definitely a convert to this method of knitting socks. I'm on my second pair since I started, which for me is a record. (I don't want to list photos of the socks I have completed because they are gifts for people who read my blog - and that would ruin the surprise!) I love how there are fewer "intersections" for my hands to deal with (faster!) and how easy it is to keep the stitches tight when passing from one needle to the other. I also really like how easy it is to divide the knitting between heel/gusset stitches and instep stitches. It's so much easier to keep track of decreases. I used to move stitches to one needle when using 5 dpns at that point anyway. This is just so much more flexible. My original goal was to learn how to knit two socks at one on 2 circs. I've been a bit daunted by reading reports from other knitters that keeping the two strands of yarn untangled isn't worth the bother. However, Carrie from Socks in the City reported that it isn't so hard, so I'm willing to give it a try. Now I just have to locate a good link for this method.

I have never understood the anguish other sock knitters express about grafting of toes. I learned to graft toes by watching an online video instruction. I watched it with many a pause, until I "got it", but have been doing it well ever since. I think it maybe took me an hour to learn from the video. Here's a decent instructional video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZTxeHz7rtw
Next time you reach the point where you need to graft a toe, sit down at the computer and follow along with the video. Once having done that, my bet is that you will be able to do it from then on without difficulty. I actually find this method easier than the figure-8 cast one to work socks from the toe up. I like cuff down methods of sock better because it is easier for me to have a sufficiently stretchy top of the cuff with casting on than with binding off. I never was really happy with binding off methods I tried with toe-up sock knitting. There was always a too tight top of the sock for my ample ankles.
Anyway, that's my two cents on sock toe grafting and knitting socks on two circs. If you know a great resource for knitting 2 socks on 2 circs, please send it along! I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be visiting you on your blog!

I'm with you on grafting, I truly enjoy it. It's just so cool that with a needle and thread you can make a seemless seam.
