Today was the last day of my job of nearly 11 years. That's quite an achievement. I can't begin to recount what I have learned during those years, there has been so much. I will miss those with whom I work - they are like a second family. Over so many years, you become acquainted with them as people, not just workers. You learn about their families, their strengths, their needs, what makes them crazy, what makes them happy, what makes them laugh. You learn who to joke with and who can't take it. They have been my morning coffee and lunchbreak everyday. We celebrated successes and mourned losses together. We attended adoption finalizations and funerals. We oooo-ed and ahhh-ed over new cars and listened to the venting when their cars were smashed. We supported each other through crises and pushed one another out the door for vacations. We reassured one another's doubts and praised each other for going above and beyond the call of duty. We showered new Moms and Dads and looked at this year's school photos. We shared recipes and and ate homemade goodies. Homemade pickles, zucchini bread, banana bread, pies, cakes, brownies were shared pretty regularly. We tried new things - salt and pepper popcorn, strawberry/jello/pretzel pie and squash soup. We vented our frustrations and listened when others did the same.
I have never worked with such a wonderful bunch of people before.
I will miss them all so much and wish I could take them all with me. Life will never be the same.

Ooofff! Hit me where I live, will ya, Sonja? I've had to leave too many jobs lately. That's the life of a contractor. Fortunately, most of that is due to successful completion.
I remember leaving my 1st job after 18 years. Wow - not easy to do.
But Essex is ahead of you. Forward - MARCH!
You'll still be posting and twittering from there, right? Smoke signals? We'll only joke once about being able to understand the language (and that was it)!

I will be posting and twittering from England, yes. I am quite excited about chronicling my adventures for others to read. It's also a way for me to be very present for the experience.
I am hoping to let the English English take over my speech and thought patterns. It's the only way to really absorb the culture. :-)
